With 2010 on the horizon, SMC has weathered a difficult year in the nation’s economic history. As anticipated, sales revenues were lower than 2008 but the firm continued to provide surveying and mapping services in its key business sectors, namely, roads and highways, water and wastewater and electric transmission facilities. In 2009, SMC completed sewer improvement projects in Brockton, New Bedford, Fall River, Belmont and Wareham, MA. Water main improvement projects were completed in Taunton, Fall River, Saugus, Mansfield, Oak Bluffs and Holden, MA and in Woonsocket and Tiverton, RI. Additionally, surveys were completed at water treatment/pump station facilities in Portsmouth and Newport, RI and in Mansfield, MA. Topographic surveys and ground penetrating radar investigations were also completed at military facilities in Rhode Island.

Throughout the year, SMC continued to provide surveying and mapping services for a number of road improvement projects including projects in Sound Beach, NY, and in Boston, Bedford, Concord, Dennis, Brewster, New Bedford and Canton, MA. SMC continues to provide topographic and bathymetric survey services for a bridge scour investigation project in Rhode Island.

SMC completed two significant electric transmission line projects using conventional aerial survey methods for a 10-mile project and LIDAR and digital imaging for a 36-mile project. In addition, numerous surveys were conducted at substations and for the design of submarine cable crossings.

As part of its strategy of providing surveying and mapping services with the latest in equipment technology, SMC has acquired an additional Trimble S6 robotic total station. The use of a Trimble VX spatial station and S6 robotic total stations integrated with Trimble R8 GNSS GPS receivers operating within a real-time virtual reference system (VRS) environment enhances the firm’s ability to efficiently undertake projects using multiple 1-person survey crews, thereby increasing the capability to respond to client’s project needs in a time-sensitive manner.  This ability to respond is crucial for continued success in today’s business climate.

SMC has moved to a new corporate office located at 325 Wood Road, Suite 109, Braintree, MA 02184.

Press releases will be posted on this site from time to time that will keep readers abreast of the continued achievements of SMC.
