Electric Transmission Lines & Facility Surveys Background For many years SMC has provided electric transmission line surveys to support the design of additional transmission lines, expansion of existing substations and/or generation facilities, and the ownership transfer of generation facilities in response to industry deregulation. We have in-depth experience with both aerial and buried transmission lines. Technology/Methodology SMC’s staff has adhered to the company’s basic philosophy “the key to providing clients with cost-effective project solutions is using the right tools and applying decades of experience to the task at hand”. In keeping with this philosophy, SMC selects the most prudent surveying methods to meet our client’s requirements for the location of structures and the determination of conductor heights and mid-span sag elevations. Terrain profiles are generated from aerial and/or ground survey methods or a combination of both methods. Value Added Services There are a number of value added services that SMC can provide to extend the value of a transmission line survey. As an example, SMC provides services to reestablish the location of the right of way lines, prepare easement plans for new transmission lines, and the expansion of the existing substations. Additionally, we can provide construction surveys to position the location of new transmission towers and provide environmental wetlands identification services.
